Tech Experience
As the saying goes, "when it rains, it pours". During my student teaching I had a not ideal technology experience. First the classroom printer stopped working. Then the classroom desktop computer. Next, the teacher's laptop stopped working. Lastly, the ELMO projector stopped working. This all occurred within the same week! It took about four weeks for the technologies to be fixed by someone at the district office, as they had a long list of technologies to fix before they would get to ours.
With technology becoming such a large tool for everyday teaching I think it would be beneficial for there to be more specialists trained to fix technologies when not operable. This would eliminate some of the time educators and students have to wait to be able to utilize such devices again.
In terms of preventing the situation before it happened, the laptop, desktop, and printer were all relatively old models. Perhaps it could have been put in the technology budget to replace older models of technologies before they interrupted classroom instruction. Also, backup devices could have been available for checkout when needed.

Tech Leader I think the role of a technology leader should not fall to just one person. I think it would be beneficial for each grade level team to have a technology leader, similarly to how most teams have a lead teacher. This would allow for quicker interactions when troubleshooting issues and more frequent interactions when discussing new ways to integrate technologies. The technology team leads could then meet once a month after school to share ideas. It would be beneficial if the technology team leaders could meet with a leader from the district level as a professional leave day once a quarter. This would allow for the study of new technologies and troubleshooting methods. |

Technology Coordinator Services
Technology coordinators provide many different services. The services offered vary from one organization to another. Of the common services offered some are more important when considering how they benefit students.
In my opinion, the most important service a technology coordinator can offer is to provide meaningful and relevant professional development for staff members. It is vital that teachers are up to date with new resources, and able to utilize these resources. By utilizing resources available, teachers are able to provide engaging learning experiences for their students.
In contrast to beneficial services, one service I would deem less beneficial for students would be information systems upkeep. I think it would benefit an organization more if other (such as teachers, coaches, office staff, or administrators) were to maintain an informative site.

Who Should Fix Technology? If I were to obtain a job in a school or business based on an Ed. S. Instructional Technology degree I do not think I should be responsible for fixing all technology equipment. With appropriate training, I think it would be beneficial of I were capable of fixing minor issues. Most schools and businesses have a separate job for people trained in fixing major technology issues. However, it would depend in the job listing description and salary offered. If I were to earn a salary that reflected having additional skills to maintain and fix technology equipment, then yes, it should be my responsibility. |
